Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Population Aging and Social Studies (CAPAS)

Welcome!

San Antonio CAPAS

The San Antonio Center for AD/ADRD Population Aging and Social Studies (San Antonio CAPAS) is a joint effort of the University of Texas at San Antonio, UTSA, and UT Health San Antonio, UTHSCSA. This multidisciplinary Center supports innovative research on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) using population aging, social and behavioral perspectives with a focus on Hispanic/Latino populations. The San Antonio CAPAS uniquely focuses on aspects of the life course that result in disparities in AD/ADRD. The program seeks to improve public health by contributing new knowledge to reduce AD/ADRD disparities.

Mission

The Mission of the San Antonio CAPAS is to reduce the gap in AD/ADRD incidence experienced by Hispanics/Latinos, the largest and fastest-growing racial or ethnic minority group of older adults in the country. We seek to narrow these gaps by bringing together multidisciplinary groups of experts and research networks in Hispanic demography, sociology, AD/ADRD epidemiology, neuropsychology, population economics, public health disparities, and experience in longitudinal studies of AD/ADRD research and Hispanic aging.
